| INDEPENDENT LIVING FOR THOSE WITH SEVERE SPINAL CORD INJURIES | |||
 A new type of wheelchair for a new type of facility. The IMS project will include a customized electric wheelchair which will be the main objective of the project. The modified electric wheelchair will contain personal care modules, feeding modules with command control and mobile ability for clients already educated in the use of a 'puff and sip' switch. This switch will move the wheelchair left, right, backward, forward, and upright to a laying back position. The modified electric wheelchair will also include a laptop computer integrated with voice activation. These modifications will enable the ventilator dependent quadriplegic to be able to become more independent from the help of caregivers. |

 Independent Respiratory Services Group Inc. will modify the customized electric wheelchair to accommodate each individual. This will be done by an engineer on staff. The ventilator dependent quadriplegic will be educated in the use and care of the modified electric wheelchair by a specialist who understands information technology. By modifying the electric wheelchair, the IMS project can ensure, enable, empower and create more independence for the ventilator dependent quadriplegic than offered in any nursing or rehab center. |
